CAPS is a professional association of Christians who serve as:

  • Psychologists
  • Professional Counselors
  • Professors & Researchers
  • Marriage & Family Therapists
  • Social Workers
  • Pastoral Counselors
  • Students & Professionals in Training

We exist to:

  • Deepen member understanding of the relationship between Christianity and the behavioral sciences at both the clinical/counseling and theoretical/research levels.
  • Encourage the spiritual, emotional and professional well-being of our members.
  • Inspire the pursuit of excellence … in the counseling clinic, the classroom, the community and in the church.
  • Create opportunities for fellowship among Christians in psychological, counseling and related professions.
  • Provide education and research opportunities assisting the profession and community at large.

CAPS Distinctives

  • CAPS is a vibrant Christian organization with a rich tradition. Founded in 1956 by a small group of Christian mental health professionals, CAPS has grown to more than 1200 members in the U.S., Canada and more than 25 other countries.

  • CAPS encourages in depth consideration of therapeutic, research, theoretical and theological issues. The association is a forum for creative new ideas. In fact, our publications and conferences are the birthplace for many of the formative concepts in our field today.

  • CAPS members represent a variety of denominations, professional groups and theoretical orientations; yet are united in their commitment to Christ and to professional excellence.

  • CAPS is a non-profit, member supported organization. It is led by a board of directors and the membership has a voice in the direction of CAPS.

  • CAPS is more than a professional association. It is a fellowship, and in addition to national activities, the organization strongly encourages local area activities which provide networking and fellowship opportunities as well as professional enrichment.
